Illness Plagues Gulf Residents in BP’s Aftermath

ORANGE BEACH, Alabama, Nov 15, 2010 (IPS) – Increasing numbers of U.S. Gulf Coast residents attribute ongoing sicknesses to BP’s oil disaster and use of toxic dispersants.
“Now I have a bruising rash all around my stomach,” Denise Rednour of Long Beach, Mississippi told IPS. “This looks like bleeding under the skin.”
Rednour lives near the coast and has been walking on the beach nearly every day since a BP oil rig exploded on Apr. 20. She has noticed a dramatically lower number of wildlife, and said that many days the smell of chemicals from what she believes are BP’s toxic dispersants fill the air.
Yet her primary concern is that she and many people she knows in the area have gotten sick.
“I have pain in my stomach, stabbing pains, in isolated areas,” Rednour added. “The sharp stabbing pain is all over my abdomen where this discolouration is, it’s in my arm pits and around my breasts. I have this dry hacking cough, my sinuses are swelling up, and I have an insatiable thirst.”
Rednour’s recent problems are a continuation of others that have beset her for months, including headaches, respiratory problems, runny nose, nausea, and bleeding from the ears.
In response to the massive spill last summer that released at least 4.9 million barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, BP admitted to using at least 1.9 million gallons of Corexit dispersants – which have been banned in 19 countries – to sink the oil. The dispersants contain chemicals that many scientists and toxicologists have warned are dangerous to humans, marine life and wildlife.
A March 1987 report titled “Organic Solvent Neurotoxicity”, by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), states: “The acute neurotoxic effects of organic solvent exposure in workers and laboratory animals are narcosis, anesthesia, central nervous system (CNS) depression, respiratory arrest, unconsciousness, and death.”
Several chemicals and chemical compounds listed in the NIOSH report, such as styrene, toluene and xylene, are now present in the Gulf of Mexico as the result of BP’s dispersants mixing with BP’s crude oil.
Captain Lori DeAngelis runs dolphin tours out of Orange Beach, Alabama.
“All my muscles hurt,” DeAngelis told IPS. “By the time I climb my stairs every muscle in my legs are in spasm. I’m coughing, I have a constant sore throat and hoarse voice.”
In addition to these symptoms, her memory is fading. “I have totally blanked out on a lot of important stuff,” she said. “I can hardly remember having talked to people who’ve interviewed me. That’s how bad it is. I’m having to bring pen and paper with me and write down everything so I don’t forget.”

While most of the other blogs continue to focus their resource on the invasive and unacceptable full frontal nudity TSA body scanners, the T-Room is following the less sexy stories, pun intended, that few in the alternative media are covering.
The growing health crisis in the Gulf of Mexico must be exposed. Innocent American’s have lost their livelihoods, their homes, their businesses, their way of life and now their health problems are escalating, because the criminal, deceitful, lying SOBs who hold power in the criminal 10 square mile federal corporate operation called Washington DC, which we gullible American’s have been told is our government, continues to ignore, dismiss and divert all attention away from poisoning and potentially murdering hundreds if not thousands of innocent Americans. And you thought Saddam was evil for gassing his people! Ha!
While American’s are being stirred up about the TSA body scanners and Chertoff’s sicko invasion of our rights, people are struggling to survive throughout the poisoned Gulf of Mexico.
Wouldn’t it be great if these same alternative behomeths focused their resources on the travesty that has hit the innocent families throughout the Gulf coast and demanded BP and the Coast Guard STOP SPRAYING THE CHEMICALS THAT ARE MAKING EVERYONE IN THE AREA SICK FROM TOXIC POISONING? Our brothers and sisters in the Gulf NEED OUR HELP!!!
James Corbett on One year anniversary of Climategate –
Helen! and the rest of you! Long time no talk. I have been getting organized with my move of business and residence to San Diego. But more importantly I went to a conference on Sustainability in Michigan. Two of the people I quoted in my book were in attendance, Nicole Foss from “The Automiatic Earth” and Steven Keen from http://www.debtwatch.com.
I have so much still to catch up with, but wanted you to know I didn’t forget about you all. Heck, I haven’t even been writing, but that finally changed yesterday (I was boycotting Seeking Alpha who never replied to my query on bias, ha). But Seeking Alpha is overall a good place to get the word out.
What did I miss the last few weeks? Someone enlighten me!
In a nutshell, the conference speakers were ALL negative as to our future. Permaculture was a big part of it, but from a financial point of view (deflationary credit contraction), they were all in agreement as to how things would unfold. I was there to see how they view gold and silver, and make sure they understood how it IS a part of the future monetary system.
The bottom line was; cash, gold/silver, land to grow things on (self sufficiency). The cash aspect to things was “cash on hand,” not cash in the bank. Making sure you have some cash to do transactions with was their point. When the velocity of money dies down, cash disappears from the economy. Banks limiting how much cash you can take out is also part of the problem.
Gold maintains its value as a “store of wealth.”

The permaculture crowd blew me away. Of course most don’t know this grass roots effort is around. Michigan is leading the way because of their 26% unemployment. Signs of the future of America? Probably.
HELP..the last 10 seconds of Farakkhan’s speech, what word did he use before the word hardship??\
I believe I stated this once before—diatomaceous earth has been suggested to ease this discomfort in the Gulf..
It solved my stinging in the back of my legs..I discovered it as I researched Morgellons from chemtrail spraying…it worked with only a few drinks mixed with hot cocoa, etc,.
When the stinging returned, I drank more and again the sensations stopped.
It is sooo cheap..animals are given it in their food for parasites, mites, etc.
It couldn’t hurt to try it.
Okay–what’s permaculture??
I made Gene cash his SS check today and Aldi’s and other discount stores…here I come…
I found out if you take a 5 lb. container OF POOL SHOCK (the one with ONLY calcium hyprochlorite active ingredient–not sodium HP) will give you 640 gallons of bleach…you have purified water…eliminate all that need of shelf space, and it has a 25 year shelf life if kept cool, dark.
I just have to figure how to add a dash to each gallon and yes, it’s drinkable after 30 minutes.
I’m just full of information, huh??
A WIN-WIN!!!
Walmart is out..I checked here.
Great question, JJ. I searched hi and low for an ending it wasn’t anywhere to be found. Maybe we could get Farrakhan to tell us.
Doug, welcome back. Know you have been missed. Tell us more about the conference and what highlights you walked away with. And like JJ asked, what is permaculture?
You didn’t miss much btw. I closed the blog down for 10 days b/c I had to get to Cincy and focus on taking care of my mom. She was dealing with some health issues and needed to have several heart procedures done. All is well now. Scarey from the start but she’s a trooper and managing to heal and gain energy.
Other than that, it’s the same old wait and write game.
Can I drop this here??
No more bailouts and some heads have to roll to give this kind of advice about modification—-
Now, I read that the modification was only a money grabbing scheme for the mortgage companies because they could let you believe for 4 months you qualified, adjusted your payment, then imformed you it was a trial thingy and you didn’t qualify>>>but the mortgage company still received their thousands per homeowner for going through the motions and the homeowner now has to pay late fees and all make up payment difference that was lowered for 4 months>>>>they are evil and God have mercy on their souls when they meet their maker!!!

Farrakhan was awesome by the way—hey land of Islam…welcome to the land of the swindlers, robbers, and thieves; namely CONgress and their masters.
This is appalling. Why is it we the public are just now learning about this? Unbelievable.
The Obama administration has quietly forged ahead with its proposal to sell $60 billion worth of fighter jets and attack helicopters to Saudi Arabia unhampered by Congress, despite questions raised in legislative inquiries and in an internal congressional report about the wisdom of the deal.
“Our six-decade-long security relationship with Saudi Arabia is a primary security pillar in the region,” Defense Sec. Robert M. Gates and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton wrote in a Nov. 16 letter to congress. “This package continues that tradition.”

So, is it becoming clear to those Hillarybots who she works for??
It is clearly not the USA—she scares the hell out of me almost as badly as the fraud.
I place links like the above on TD blog just ot piss them off…
like the Clinton Casualties telling of all murders, suicides, and accidents of the ‘friends’ of the Clintons.
Just posted at TDblog…they don’t like me; I am obviously ignored there…but I bet they read my posts.

JJ – TD’s was my home blog during the 2008 elections. It was at her blog that I got the fever to start my own. When she closed it down I went seeking out a new community. I had followed CWs blog but rarely posted in 2008 and 2009. I liked the community b/c of their Independent stance on the issues, but didn’t care for the bickering and closed mindedness. So, I finally decided to start my own. Hence, the T-Room was born.
Although I was a huge Hillary supporter in 2008, I have learned more than enough about her underhanded dealings over the lifetime of her career to remove my support. She and Bill are not to be trusted. Slick Willie and Slick Hillary are perfect nicknames for both of them.
Joan Swirsky over at Canada Free Press slaps Obama and hard. Love it! http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/30140
Helen, prayers are with you and your Mom. I din’t know that was happening with you.
Permaculture. That was a new word to me heading to the conference, and a pleasant surprise as well. In a nutshell, it is what will replace the government (Federal and local) when things collapse. How will a community function if everything we rely on is no longer available to us? These folks were asking these questions now, before it happens, to have something in place should things collapse.
Of course the rest of the conference (and my reason for attending) was the financial side, explaining how the collapse will unfold. I addressed this in my latest article; How a Deflationary Credit Contraction Will Unfold (2 parts): http://buygoldandsilversafely.com/deflation/how-a-deflationary-credit-contraction-will-unfold-part-1/
Nicole Foss has a 40 acre property in Canada where the entire place is set up to be self sufficient, including energy and food. There is also room on the property for additional people (family and/or friends) should they need help.
It’s not as much a fear based approach, but one of simple sustainability. There was much more to it than this, and I will post the video when it becomes available. Her speech on what she has done with her property is worth listening to.
But her speech on the deflationary credit contraction, something only a few understand, is what I wrote about. It seems black and white to me. It’s how quickly she thinks things will unfold that was news to me. She said 3 to 5 years. I have much more writing to do!
BrasscheckTV – Chertoff and Pedophile Body Scanners
Independent sustainability appears to be the smartest way to go. Many folks I knew long ago were doing just this by buying up small farms t/o Central Virginia. I didn’t get it then, but I do now. These good folk were way out in front of this collapse and have grown their farms to sustainability. They aren’t in it for the money but for the day all hell breaks loose.
When you post the video please let me know and I’ll do a cross post. I also posted Parts 1 and 2 of your article “How a deflationary credit contraction will unfold” on the chalkboard yesterday and I FB’d it.
Mom is doing great. She left this morning for the mountains for some more R & R. We will be joining her later today. Felt she’d enjoy a change of scenery. Figured it would do her heart some good.
Yes, you and I both have some writing to do. I’ve been working on a new post, one of which I’ve been pondering for weeks now, and hope to finish it tomorrow. Stay tuned.
Very good Helen…glad your Mom can enjoy the scenery.
We have the farmland in Illinois, and always thought about what to do with it besides grow corn. Now I have a better idea of what needs to be done with it and will have some good conversations with my parents during Thanksgiving.
Look forward to your article…
Too too funny not to share!!
European Threat Alert Levels
The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent terrorist threats that have raised their security level from “Miffed” to “Peeved”. Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to irritated” or even “A Bit Cross”. Londoners have not been “A Bit Cross” since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies all but ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from “Tiresome” to “A Bloody Nuisance”. The last time “A Bloody Nuisance” warning level was during the great fire of 1666.
Also, the French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from “Run” to “Hide”. The only two higher levels in France are “Surrender” and “Collaborate”. The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France ‘s white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country’s military capability.
Italy is on a heightened level of alert. Italy has increased its alert level from “Shout Loudly and Excitedly” to “Elaborate Military Posturing”. Two more levels remain: “Ineffective Combat Operations” and “Change Sides”.
The Germans also increased their alert state from “Disdainful Arrogance” to “Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs”. Two higher levels remain: “Invade a Neighbor” and “Lose”.
Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual and the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels .
Lastly, the Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish Navy can get a really good look at the Old Spanish Navy.

From The Raw Story http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/11/oregon-senator-vows-block-internet-censorship-bill/
By Stephen C. Webster

t’s too early to say for sure, but Oregon Senator Ron Wyden could very well go down in the history books as the man who saved the Internet.
A bill that critics say would have given the government power to censor the Internet will not pass this year thanks to the Oregon Democrat, who announced his opposition during a recent committee hearing. Individual Senators can place holds on pending legislation, in this case meaning proponents of the bill will be forced to reintroduce the measure and will not be able to proceed until the next Congress convenes.
Even then, its passage is not certain.
~~~Helen, there was a time when I would have voted for Hillary…but things like her taking the crap from bill for philandering was one–but when someone sent me to the links with the casualties..and I learned about Waco and Reno, and then the Oklahoma bombing and the disappearing FBI papers…I had enough—one incident is coincidental, two is bad luck, but all those together made me realise they are crooks and murderers…I can say this and not be sued for defamation because Lord help if either wants to air all those in public…Bill still won’t let the video from across the street of Murrah Bldg be unclassified…all this I learned on the web.so correct me if any info is way off the grid.~~~
Doug…all of us don’t have funds for 40 acres…but bartering with those with talents, even those as simple as caring for a child, a swap for garden vegetables may be the new curency for all neighborhoods.
I know I have seriously been prepping…however, one thing I have put off for this reason…and even the prepper blogs have no answer for this.
Here goes…why should I use my little back yard to grow a garden??
If things get as badly as projected in a SHTF
scenario, can I seriously stay up all night with a 22 Magnum rifle and guard that food??
That is soooo unrealistic.
So, canned goods it is, with rice, and oats for two years until something happens.
And that’t how I feel–fencing??–get real.
SOME MORE INFO:
This is hardly a surprise but, this morning (as previously announced), the lame duck Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously voted to move forward with censoring the internet via the COICA bill — despite a bunch of law professors explaining to them how this law is a clear violation of the First Amendment. What’s really amazing is that many of the same Senators have been speaking out against internet censorship in other countries, yet they happily vote to approve it here because it’s seen as a way to make many of their largest campaign contributors happy. There’s very little chance that the bill will actually get passed by the end of the term but, in the meantime, we figured it might be useful to highlight the 19 Senators who voted to censor the internet this morning:
•Patrick J. Leahy — Vermont
•Herb Kohl — Wisconsin
•Jeff Sessions — Alabama
•Dianne Feinstein — California
•Orrin G. Hatch — Utah
•Russ Feingold — Wisconsin
•Chuck Grassley — Iowa
•Arlen Specter — Pennsylvania
•Jon Kyl — Arizona
•Chuck Schumer — New York
•Lindsey Graham — South Carolina
•Dick Durbin — Illinois
•John Cornyn — Texas
•Benjamin L. Cardin — Maryland
•Tom Coburn — Oklahoma
•Sheldon Whitehouse — Rhode Island
•Amy Klobuchar — Minnesota
•Al Franken — Minnesota
•Chris Coons — Delaware
This should be a list of shame. You would think that our own elected officials would understand the First Amendment but, apparently, they have no problem turning the US into one of the small list of authoritarian countries that censors internet content it does not like (in this case, content some of its largest campaign contributors do not like). We already have laws in place to deal with infringing content, so don’t buy the excuse that this law is about stopping infringement. This law takes down entire websites based on the government’s say-so. First Amendment protections make clear that if you are going to stop any specific speech, it has to be extremely specific speech. This law has no such restrictions. It’s really quite unfortunate that these 19 US Senators are the first American politicians to publicly vote in favor of censoring speech in America.
Wyden has my support. Think I’ll send his office a note today. Hopefully others are doing the same.
JJ,
First, let me be clear…I never recommended or said for anyone to acquire 40 acres. I did say that’s what Nicole Foss has done. In reality, she said she only needs 2 acres to live off of. She has the “extra room on the property” for family/friends as I stated.
As far as your concerns about protecting your garden in the back yard, why not do both? Have your canned goods, but also have the garden for consumption or bartering as you suggest.
There could be neighborhood watches set up just as there are in communities today. If one is out on their own in a secluded area, they will have to either shoot or share. But this concern shouldn’t preclude someone from not doing all they can within their means.
If Mad Max dropped in on my property, I’d give him some food.
One can’t help but wonder how many years, when added together, these yahoos have labored to slowly erode the rights of the People?
Everyday that I see this man in the news, I want to scream. He is a boob!
http://af.reuters.com/article/energyOilNews/idAFLDE6AL0YT20101122?sp=true
Doug…you missed my point–one night alone could empty my garden with hungry neighbors; I don’t even know their names, I invited to church and that’s as far as I got…
we must live in different circumstances…when I suggested my neighbor with 2 kids prepping!!! he laughed at me and said he’d go to the church for food–and my response was, you’re the problem, not the solution….even fencing(unable at this time to finance that; I’m really sacrificing for what I save)is not realistic.
I don’t know how much clearer I can be—TSHTF scenario isn’t nice to think about—but honest people will turn into thieves.
I have 9 other houses on this street alone and I can guarantee they are not going to be my friends.
As for one example, the one with the small pool(oversized hot tub) won’t listen to me when I tell her she has the perfect bargaining tool…it’s already chlorinated!!
A little calcium hypochlorite and it’s drink ready…noone here listens to me–I’M THE NUT!!!
I HAVE NOTHING TO WORK WITH AND GLAD YOU DO HAVE REASONABLE NEIGHBORS WITH THEIR HEADS OUT OF THE SAND–NOT MY CASE HERE.
And, NO, we can’t sell the house and move further into the country which will be your next suggestion.
My neighborhood is full of Barney Fifes, not Mad Maxes…(smiley face inserted here)
Fencing to protect a garden is so unrealistic…in my younger days, I’ve climbed many!!
Is the Kriger/Keiser “Short Squeeze JPM to Oblivion” plan working? Judging by the wholesale availability of silver (or lack thereof) the answer is a resound yes. In Coin Updates News we read that “as of today, there are no longer any regular wholesale supplies of the 1 ounce through 100 ounce silver rounds and bars available for immediate delivery. It may be possible to locate incidental quantities of some product, but most wholesalers are now promising two to four weeks delivery to allow time for the silver to be fabricated.” Over the weekend we noted that even at the smaller, retail level, Silver American Eagles sold by the US Mint, have surged to a 2010 high in just the first three weeks of November. Is America now fully intent on ending Jamie Dimon’s domination over the precious metal space?
DENVER – USA – A full body scanner operator was caught masturbating during a scanning session by airport staff late Tuesday.
Airport officials at Denver International airport were on high alert yesterday when a full body scanner operator was caught masturbating in his booth as a team of High School netball players went through the scanner.
“The young ladies were going through the scanner one by one, and every time one went through, this guys face was getting redder and redder. His hand was moving and then he started sweating. He was then seen doing his ‘O’ face. That’s when the security dragged him out of his booth and cuffed him. He had his pants round his ankles and everybody was really disgusted,” Jeb Rather, a passenger on a flight to New York told CBS news.
****NEW POST … Tired of the lies…are YOU? The real truth behind JFK’s assassination ****
JJ,
I understand what your concerns are. Remember, we are discussing these issues and obviously I don’t know your situation entirely and have to read into what you are saying and make assumptions.
To be more specific…with the knowledge of your situation I am aware of thus far, I submit the following;
I agree someone could raid your garden. Perhaps they would have to shoot your pit bull guard dogs first and the shots would awaken you so you can go to shoot the intruders before they get your food. J/K…but canned food won’t stop your neighbors from knocking down your door to get at it in your SHTF scenario.
Yes, my next suggestion would be to move, but that doesn’t seem to fit your stated goals and I’m sure you have good reasons for it.
However, do you have a relative or friend who thinks like you do and lives on a property where you can accomplish your goals? Like Nicole Foss, who has various structures on her property, can you find two acres on someone else’s property in your desired location with all of the criteria you want available, including neighbors who won’t steal your stuff?
For me, there is always an answer. But community involvement and awareness, banding together and taking care of their own is what is needed. There are entire communities working towards sustainability in Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin I know of. There will be more popping up in the future.
Alternatively, perhaps, depending on your financial wherewithal, you can buy a sailboat and have it stored in a place where you can set sail at any point in time (this could be plan B). This would be my preferred choice as I live in a city, far from the farmland my family owns. Wind power from a sailboat to get to and from places is free. Installing some solar panels can take care of running appliances. Food can be had via fishing. The only other thing you need is some sort of a desalination unit if in the ocean (my preference) or water purifier if living off the lakes. I would also install an electric motor that can be used with any other motors to run away from the pirates.
If we get to the point of Mad Max or Waterworld, then some communities will survive, and some won’t. If a house burned down in the olden days, the community got together to rebuild it. It seems to me to be a community issue you have. Where can you find the community you want if you can’t change the community you are in, and can you accomplish that goal with your current situation? Maybe a few of you and your family/friends can go in on a property like this: http://www.buyafarm.com/IL/StClair12_817L/Webpage.htm Water is available, the wood is your energy and get some chickens for eggs, and you are set (simplistically of course). You are also somewhat concluded from the roaming band of thieves and your neighbors nearby would also be growing food. Then there are the fish ponds as a back-up source till your next garden grows.
Don’t take offense to what I say JJ. I don’t know your entire situation, but I also try to help and hopefully you can see that in my answers.
Helen, I am aware of what Keiser is doing and I applaud it. In my book I mention that the more who buy gold and silver, the more the Fed’s hands is exposed. It’s simple supply/demand economics.
J.P. Morgan will implode on their own with the over $1 trillion of sub-prime derivatives coming due in the next 1-5 years. It is the Fed I wish to end and will be writing towards that end with my second book.
but canned food won’t stop your neighbors from knocking down your door to get at it in your SHTF scenario.
Nope, it won’t…but that HMR Henry, or 22 Magnum, and my 12 guage will guard my home, not my garden. I can tell when someone breaks into my home, not my yard.
My husband and I are ‘it’ for each other..no friends, no family, and church members already think I’m a looney tuney.
I’ll put a sailboat on my list of ‘to do’ things right after paying property taxes which I have been stealing from to buy 3/$1 canned vegetables….(smiley face inserted here)
I don’t know your entire situation…exactly..we are those Ky rednecks living from one week to the next…I have sacrificed for what I have accomplished in 2 years…I have my priorities in order…even moved cans from the pantry (room, not closet)to not have all in same room.
Lots of closet space here not used.
I visit two prepper sites daily.
